Our Mission & Values

Proactive Risk

Mission First. People Always.

Proactive Risk exists for one reason: to protect those who rely on technology before failure becomes damage. We do not wait for incidents. We do not accept avoidable risk. We operate forward, with discipline, integrity, and purpose.

Proactive Risk was founded by Tom Brennan, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, whose life and career have been shaped by service, accountability, and the responsibility to protect others—no matter the environment.

Founder’s Story: Forged Early. Refined in Service.

Long before cybersecurity became an industry, Tom’s roots in the #516 region of Long Island placed him at the center of the early 8‑bit, BBS, telephone, and computer systems communities. This was hands‑on learning—curiosity, experimentation, and occasional harmless mischief—driven by a desire to understand how systems really work, especially when they fail.

That learning did not happen alone. It was shaped by a global network of technical peers, connected across phone lines, message boards, and early networks. Reputation mattered. Trust mattered. Accountability mattered. You learned fast, owned your mistakes, and looked out for one another. That mindset still defines how Proactive Risk approaches security today.

That foundation was later hardened by service in the United States Marine Corps.

The Marine Corps did not replace curiosity—it gave it structure, discipline, and a mission.

Marine Corps Values at Our Core

Everything we do at Proactive Risk is guided by the Marine Corps values of:

Honor
We tell the truth about risk. We do the right thing when it’s easy—and especially when it’s not.

Courage
We speak plainly. We challenge assumptions. We confront problems early, before they become crises.

Commitment
We do not quit on the mission, the client, or each other. When we take responsibility, we own it fully.

Security, like leadership, is not about tools alone. It is about trust, preparation, and accountability under pressure.

Ikigai: Purpose With Responsibility

At the heart of Proactive Risk is Ikigai (生き甲斐)—the Japanese concept meaning “reason for being” or “what makes life worth living.”
Ikigai is the reason you wake up ready to do meaningful work. It is where skill, responsibility, and purpose intersect.

For Tom—and for Proactive Risk—our Ikigai is clear:

Understand technology deeply.
Serve with integrity.
Protect those who depend on systems they cannot afford to see fail.

We’ve Got Your Six

Proactive Risk operates as a team.
The people who work with and for Proactive Risk do so with a shared understanding:

  • We prepare before the fight
  • We cover each other’s blind spots
  • We stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder when it matters

We’ve got your six.

That means our clients are never alone.
That means risk is addressed early, honestly, and decisively.
That means when pressure hits, we do not panic—we execute.

Because protection is not a checkbox.
It is a responsibility.
And for Proactive Risk, it is the mission.
